Jegtvig, Opp, Strand and Kollman record wins at Jamestown Speedway

JAMESTOWN, ND: Jamestown Speedway honored 2009 high school graduates on Saturday night with free admission and an awesome WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Series Racing program. WISSOTA Street Stock driver Rory Opp won his first feature of the season while Blake Jegtvig, Dustin Strand and Justin Kollman were repeat winners.

Corky Thomas grabbed the lead at the beginning of the WISSOTA Modified feature but last week’s winner, Jason Grimes took over on lap two. Grimes appeared to be on his way to another big win but Blake Jegtvig had other plans. Jegtvig started 8th
but took only 5 laps to get to second place. Without any yellow flags to close up the field, Grimes had opened up a considerable lead on the rest of the field. Jegtvig started chipping away at the lead and closing in on the leader. Grimes kept moving up the track and on lap 17, he slipped too high allowing Jegtvig to get by. Jegtvig went on to take the checkered flag ahead of Grimes. Ben Mickelson finished third followed by Mark Trautner, Mike Stearns, Corky Thomas, John Corell, Randy Tarno, Bob Sagen and Randal Hanson.

The first lap of the WISSOTA Street Stock feature brought the only caution period of the 20 lap event. As the field raced through turns 3 and 4, one car ran into the back of another spinning him and causing a pile up. The cars of Cody Pratschner,
Geoff Hellman and Royce Jawaski were eliminated in the wreck and Barret Berg and Chris Ritter changed flat tires and returned to the track.

Rory Opp grabbed the lead from polesitter Ryan Pommerer on the restart and never looked back claiming his first feature win of the season. Kelly Hagel, last week’s winner, started in the 8th position and finished second. Luke Nelson finished third
followed by Nate Keena, Trent Grager, Nic Klein, Barrett Berg, James Tandeski, Ryan Pommerer and Casey Stangeland.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modified class had the largest number of entrants with 28 cars. Heat winners were Scott Bintz, Derek Bernstein, Taylor Weight and Ryan Mikkelson. The B-main was won by Royce Jawaski. Mikkelson was on the pole for the feature and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. The yellow flag waved after 4 laps for Billie Christ who pitted with a flat tire. John Clemens was called for causing the flat and went to the back of the field. Dustin Strand started the feature in
the 8th position but was up to 3rd on the restart. Strand edged Mikkelson to take over the lead on lap 5.

The only other caution of the race came at lap 10 and Scott Bintz got by Mikkelson on the restart to take over second place. Mikkelson went back one more spot when 14th starting Jerry Theis roared by on lap 14. Once clear of traffic, Theis set out
to catch the leaders but ran out of laps and had to settle for third behind Strand and Bintz. Mikkelson finished fourth followed by Derek Bernstein, Eric Edwards, Josh Eberhardt, Jim Morlock, Billie Christ and Taylor Weight.

Justin Kollman wasted no time in going from his fifth place starting position to the front of the Bomber feature event. Kollman led all 15 laps to claim his second feature win in a row. Seventh starting Shawn Becker finished second followed by Bryan Wolf, Jake Emo, Donnie Martin, Ryan Widmer, Zach Frederick, Josh Ganser, Tyler Michel and Kyle Sand.

The father son team of Glenn and Grant Christianson won the Road Hog race followed by Chase Biel and Seth Schulz.
