Vintage Cars Join ABC Action Saturday

Ashland, WI — The ABC Raceway will “turn back the clock” for race fans when the Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers group comes to town for its annual visit on Saturday.

The program will be presented by Baxter’s Speed Shop & Custom Machining of Dorchester and Eau Claire, which also provides racing parts and accessories for the drivers at ABC every race night. NVSR, formed in 1999, is made up of over 50 members from throughout northwestern Wisconsin and east-central Minnesota who restore and race vintage coupes, roadsters, full-bodied racers and super-modifieds from years gone by, appearing and competing in over 20 race events at 14 different regional tracks.

One of the highlights of the annual visit by the club is the fact that many of the drivers arrive early at the track and unload their racers in the grandstand parking area, giving fans a great opportunity to check out the cars and visit with the club members, who are always gracious to the fans.

Also on the track will be the five regular weekly divisions for their complete programs of qualifying heats and A-features. Last Saturday Steve Stuart of Ashland ran away to his first-ever WISSOTA modified feature win here since moving up to the headline division after championship seasons in the WISSOTA Midwest modifieds in 2008 and ’09.

Dave Flynn of Superior became the first driver to lead the WISSOTA super stock standings at Ashland other than Scott Lawrence since the ’09 season after his second straight A-main win here last weekend. Also picking up his second ABC Raceway win of the season was Wakefield, MI’s George Dalbeck, in the Mid-mods. Dale Coddington of Hayward picked up the feature win in the six-cylinders last Saturday, and the pure stock ‘A’ win was the first of the career for Superior’s DJ Keeler.

The grandstand and pit gates will open at 5 pm on Saturday, with hot laps starting at 6:15 and the first race of the season set for around 7. Admission tickets for adults (ages 13 & older) are only $10, while fans ages 12 and under are welcome for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Prior to Saturday’s race program, “Race Night” will air live with up-to-date track news and weather information on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm. The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, .
