Boone, IA – The 2013 Championship trophies have not had time to collect dust on the mantles and the 2014 schedule is in place. The upcoming season will boast 26 nights of racing as the Marshalltown Speedway celebrates its Golden Anniversary. The famed high banked ¼ mile dirt oval began in 1964 with four events and the memories have not quit since that time.
The first action of the season will be the Annual Car Show and open practice on Sunday, March 30th. Race cars will be on display starting at 3:00 pm with free food. An open practice will begin at 6:00 pm and run till 9:00 pm. Racing action will see its first green flag of the season at the Annual Tri-County Heating – Frostbuster on Friday night, April 4th. Racing will then continue weekly at the track that is “What Friday Nights Are Made For”.
Another special date to mark on your calendar will be the July 4th Friday night weekly points show. This night will be the fan appreciation night with a special admission price for adults of only $5.00, children 11 and under will be admitted for free. At the conclusion of the night there will be a tremendous fireworks display in conjunction with the city of Marshalltown. Dates for the Cornbelt Clash Miller Lite 50 and Stock Car/SportMod Shootout will be announced at a later date.
Once again, the final event on the year will be the 8th Annual World Nationals. This event will pay $10,000 to the Modified victor. I.M.C.A. Stock Cars and I.M.C.A. SportMods will race for $1,000 to win each night, with the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stocks will competing for a $500 top prize. Total cash and contingency prizes are currently estimated to exceed $130,000, for this two day must see event.
For those of you who can’t wait until next season to get a racing fix, don’t forget the annual “Battle at the Barn VI” coke syrup races. Motorcycles, go-karts, four wheelers, three wheelers, lawn mowers and golf carts will battle it out at the Jacobson Building, Iowa State Fairgrounds on Friday January 24th and Saturday January 25th.
