NRP and I-80 May Highlights

In addition to Schrader, Nextel Cup star Kenny Wallace will also make a special appearance to challenge the Home Pride Pro Modified drivers in his St. Louis Cardinals sponsored modified. Schrader will race in the Dodge Super Late Model division in his own Federated Auto Parts sponsored Super Late Model. Grand Nationals and the Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stocks will also be on the card that night.

There was speculation that Schrader would also drive a locally owned modified that evening but Schrader confirmed by phone that he wouldn’t. “I want to concentrate on my late model and put on as good a show as possible for the fans” Schrader said. “Driving two totally different cars on the same night doesn’t give me the time necessary to do that” he added.

The month kicks off with Allstate Insurance presents the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series on Saturday, May 6th and Kosiski Auto Parts presents Midwest Auto Recyclers Night plus the Dodge Weekly Series on Saturday, May 13 th.

The new Kids Race Car Ride Night on Saturday, May 20 th will give kids 10 and under a chance to ride in the race cars at intermission. Special $5 off coupons will be available at local area Dodge Dealers in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska beginning the week of May 8 th leading up to the event.

The annual event will also feature the Home Pride Pro Modifieds and Grand National Late Models in a special non-points event of their own. The Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stocks, originally scheduled as part of the show, will have the night off and will be treated to two complimentary adult grandstand tickets by the Speedway as special thanks for their weekly participation. The complimentary free tickets will be given to the Hobby Stock drivers with perfect attendance at the track’s regular weekly events held so far this season.

“As we reviewed the past history of the event and the large Late Model car count we felt that the overall car count had become too large to present a timely show for our fans and competitors” said General Manager Tom Gutowski. “Giving the Hobby Stocks the night off will let us concentrate the action among 3 classes and highlight the intense Super Late Model competition even more” Gutowski added.

I-80 Speedway is the only NASCAR sanctioned track in Nebraska, hosts the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series on Saturday and Sunday nights. Only one other NASCAR member track in the US hosts the Dodge Weekly Series more than one time week. LSS has also introduced a new Spec. SEMP is open weekly on Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons for practice riding for a small fee.
