Familiar Sight at FCS: Doar Taking Home the Big Bucks

August 21st, 2005

Jeff Provinzino picked up the dash win and the right to start on the pole for the 40 lap main even alongside Lance Mathees.

At the drop of the green Provinzino with Mathees in tow shot to the lead. Exiting turn two Mathees began to slow with a flat tire and by the time he came into turn three the field had bunched up behind him causing Don Eischens, Mike Wold, and John Seitz to spin. Seitz sustained the heaviest damage and stayed in the work area for awhile working on his car.

On the restart Provinzino retained the lead but was already feeling pressure from Pat Doar who had started 4th.

On the lap two the caution came out once again for debris off the #18 car of Curt Gelling who lost a drive shaft going down the back stretch.

That bunched the field back with Provinzino still at the helm of the shrinking field.

The green flag dropped once and for all as the rest of the feature would go green. Provinzino was still wheeling his Arnie Ranta sponsored Rocket around in the lead but Pat Doar worked the high side to his benefit and moved into the lead with only a handful of laps in the book.

Doar began to pull away from the rest of the field but the best battle was for second with Provinzino and Mahder picking up where they had left off the night before at Madison Speedway. As the pair entered traffic the racing became heated as they swapped positions several times. Joel Cryderman came up to make it a three car battle towards the end of the forty laps after passing John Kaanta for fourth. Cryderman was a man on a mission and passed both Mahder and Provinzino to pick up his consecutive runner up finish in less than a month at Fiesta City Speedway.

Pat Doar went on to win the race by over half a lap and showcased his dominance in a convincing fashion. With only two races left in the 2005 Tri Star Challenge Series schedule Doar holds a slim 11 point lead over John Kaanta.

The Farmers Mutual Insurance Pure Stocks was won by Scott Pederson who used his soft right foot to pilot his #17 Hot Looks car around the super slick speedway. Matt Suckow and Ryan Bjerkeset followed him to the line.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks came to the track with current national point’s leader Ryan Aho starting on the pole. At the drop of the green Aho and outside front row starter, Kyle Peterlin, took off into turn one. Peterlin and Aho raced side by side for several laps before Aho was able to get the lead for good and take home another win. Peterlin was edged out for second by Jon Stepan.

The Fagen Incorporated Midwest Modifieds were up next with the 25 lap Midwest Modified Nationals feature.

Jason Schoep and Brandon Nelson led the field down to the green. Nelson shot to the early lead using the bottom side of the track on both ends while Schoep slipped back to fifth early on.

The car on the move early was the #36 of Danny Bayer who was moving up using a middle groove to pass Schoep and Nate Heinrich for second. The “Elrosa Rocket” then set his sites on Nelson for the lead.

Once Bayer reeled in Nelson the two raced hard for several laps before Bayer was able to get around and take home the win. Nelson finished second and a hard charging Buzzy Adams finished third after starting 9th.

Johnson Pulls Down WISSOTA Modified Feature Win

August 16th, 2005

The first feature of the night was for the Fiesta City Speedway cruisers. What has become a familiar sight at the track Dustin Holtquist pulled the #5h into Gatorade Victory Lane once again. Holtquist took the lead on lap three and never looked back. Finishing second was the #2 car of Devin DeVos and in third was the #7 of Kevin DeBaere.

The Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stocks were the next feature of the evening. At the drop of the green flag Jon Schmidt jumped out front with Matt Suckow hot on his rear bumper. The #00 of Ryan Bjerkeset sat in third hanging right with the top two cars.

Schmidt started to pull away from the Suckow and Bjerkeset by roughly five car lengths but by lap four Suckow had tracked down Schmidt and began to pressure him for the lead.

The top three cars all ran away from the rest of the field and battled it out between themselves with Schmidt just holding off Suckow for the win. Bjerkeset finished a very close third.

The point’s battle is heating up between Suckow and Scott Pederson with only two nights of track points left in the 2005 season. Suckow was able to pad his points lead a bit over Pederson when he had to pull in at the halfway point with a flat right rear tire.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were up next with Kelly Timm jumping out to the lead at the drop of the green flag. Timm would never look back but did feel pressure from the #25 of Mike Jans early in the feature only to see Jans pull pitside with mechanical problems.

The next car in line to apply pressure on Timm was the #71x of Cory Tammen who came charging forward after an early caution to momentarily battle Timm for the lead but was never able to make the pass. Kelly Timm picked up another feature win with Tammen finishing second and Chuck Savoie coming home a very respectable third.

The Fagen Incorporated Midwest Modifieds rolled to the racing surface next with Nate Heinrich and Brandon Bendel starting on the front row. At the drop of the green Heinrich jumped to an early and commanding lead. Bendel began to slip back while he was getting the bugs sorted out in his new ride.

Heinrich pulled away even further in his white #10h ride only to see his lead evaporate after several cautions.

Dominic Gregoire settled into second and tried to run down Heinrich but never had anything for the sophomore Mid Mod shoe. The best battle on the track was between the #72 of Tyler Limoges and #73 of Zach Johnson who were battling it out for third only to see Danny Bayer coming charging from the back of the pack and slip by both for third.

Heinrich never looked back and picked up another feature win at Fiesta City Speedway. Gregoire turned in a great run by finishing second and Bayer came home third securing him a 19 point lead in the season point’s battle.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks came trackside next with Jon Stepan, who is quite possibly the hottest Super Stock driver in WISSOTA, starting on the outside front row along with rookie Super pilot Mike Peterson.

The top lane was the preferred groove at the drop of the green and Stepan took that to his advantage and jumped out front early. On lap two Stepan had put roughly nine car lengths between himself and the now second place runner of Jason Vejtruba. Stepan almost looped his ride in turn two but was able to gather it back up and hang onto the lead.

Steve Beach was now running third after clearing Peterson several laps in. He tried to reel in Vejtruba but was not able to.

That was the way they finished with Stepan taking the win followed by Vejtruba and Beach.

The feature made the point’s battle heat up as only six points separate Beach and Stepan in the season long point’s battle.

The WISSOTA Modifieds rolled onto the track next with double dipping Zach Johnson starting on the outside pole alongside the #1x of Terry Engebretson.

As the green flag was waving Johnson used the high line to his advantage and shot into the lead in turn one just edging out Engebretson down the back stretch.

The caution came out early and bunched the field back up with Johnson still leading, Engebretson in second and the hard charging Jamie Lemke in third.

Johnson didn’t show the pressure of being a rookie shoe behind the wheel of a full blown mod and never looked back. The Lowry, MN resident brought home his first feature win of the season at Fiesta City Speedway followed by Terry Engebretson and Jamie Lemke.

In the points battle Jamie Lemke holds a slim 13 point lead over Andy Gordon.

The final feature of the evening was for the WISSOTA Late Models.

The front row was occupied by the Ardy Eilers and Chuck Kelly.

At the drop Kelly shot hard into the turn one cushion and edged into the lead going down the back chute. Eilers filed in behind Kelly for second and stayed there till the middle of lap number two when Kelly jumped the cushion in turn two opening the door for Eilers.

It was all for not as the caution came out for the #00 of Lance Bjerkeset who came to a stop in turn two with a broke liftbar.

That moved Chuck Kelly back into the top spot when the green came back out. The wily veteran used that to his advantage and never looked back, despite one other caution for contact between the Brian Beutler and Mike Wold, as he went on to pick up his first feature win of the season.

Eilers ran a good race and finished second with Brian Schultz coming home third.

The Late Model point’s battle is all but over with as Bjerkeset holds a 57 point lead over Brian Schultz.

Doar Triumphs at Fiesta City Challenge Series Race

August 1st, 2005

The evening started off with the Farmers Mutual Insurance Pure Stocks taking to the track. The field was led to the green by the #1 of Brandon Louwagie of Marshall and the #26 of Jon Dingfelder.

On the drop of the green the #00 of Ryan Bjerkeset shot to the lead from his inside second row starting position. The field would stay under green until lap number seven when the yellow would come out for the outside front row starter of Dingfelder who came to a stop in the back chute with mechanical problems.

Back underway Bjerkeset was still feeling pressure from the #1 of Louwagie who began to fade with problems. Bjerkeset began to pull away shortly after that and went on to pickup a very popular win in front of the home town crowd. Scott Pederson came from his 8th starting position to grab second and Matt Suckow came home third.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks came track side next with former WISSOTA National Champion Scott Paulson starting on the pole.

Paulson shot to the lead on lap one with Ryan Buer falling in line in second. Paulson felt pressure from Buer the entire way but ran a good race and never gave up the top spot on his way to the feature win. Buer finished second with Clarkfield’s Mike Jans coming home third.

The main event of the evening was up as the WISSOTA Late Models rolled twenty five cars to the starting grid. Dash winner Pat Doar started on the pole with Jeff Provonzino started alongside.

At the drop of the green Doar shot to the lead using a high line on both ends of the race track. Provonzino settled into second but felt pressure from Scott Ward immediately who took over second by lap four.

Several laps in the #9e of Don Eischens slipped off turn two bringing out the first caution. That bunched the field back up with Doar occupying the front row by himself on the double file restart. Back underway Doar continued to lead but the Ward was applying all kinds of pressure and closed within half a car length on several occasions. The caution came out again when #M1 car of Curt Meyers went off the track in turn three.

Doar continued out front on the drop of the green for the restart but was still feeling the pressure from Ward as the field circled the track. Doar was using a different line as he moved down to mid-track and Ward continued riding the thin cushion that comprised both ends of the track. As Ward closed even closer Doar began to feel the footsteps and moved back to the cushion and began to slowly walk away from Ward.

The action was heating up further back in the pack as Steve Laursen worked his way from the 18th starting spot, after qualifying thru the B-main, up to the top ten on lap 25. Laursen was able to put his #19 MasterSbilt wherever he wanted too and make it work and ended up finishing eighth.

As the laps wound down the fifth starting car of Joel Cryderman began to apply pressure to Ward for second and as the white flag came out the duo went side by side for second. Doar only had two more corners to navigate in his #11 MasterSbilt toward the win but second place was still up for grabs as Cryderman edged ahead of Ward for second in turns three and four. Doar crossed the line first with Cryderman edging Ward for second at the line.

It was Doar’s second Tri Star Challenge Series feature win in as many nights.

The final feature of the evening was for the WISSOTA Modifieds. Rookie sensation Andy Gordon stared on the pole alongside the #17l of Jamie Lemke

At the drop of the green Lemke was able to get the jump with Gordon slipping back. Only one lap into the race the caution flew for the #72 of Dustin Beebe who spun in turn four.

The field bunched back up with Lemke at the front. At the drop of the green Lemke shot out to a comfortable lead and was never challenged as the rest of the feature went green. Dennis Bitzan and Craig Christianson battled it out for second with Bitzan taking the position.

The next race up on the schedule for Fiesta City Speedway will be on Friday, August 5th during JB Yates/MN West night at the track. Please visit our website for more information at www.fiestacityspeedway.net

Sabraski Takes Governor’s Ethanol Challenge Victory

July 25th, 2005

The Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stocks were the first feature of the night to hit the track. On the start the #17 of Scott Pederson jumped out to the early lead with Brandon Louwagie in tow.

The first yellow came on lap five when the #00 of Ryan Bjerkeset spun in turn four.

On the restart the #2s of Jon Schmidt was able to get past Louwagie for second and began to apply pressure to Pederson for the lead. As the laps wound down, Schmidt was inching closer to the inside and into taking the lead but on the white flag lap he made contact with a tire in turn two that slowed him and allowed Pederson to cruise the last half lap to an easy win. Louwagie moved back into second at the line and Jeff Stitt finished third.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were up next with Ryan Schroeder and Mike Jans on the front row. On the start Jans shot into the lead. Schroeder began to experience problems from the start and started to slide back. Schroeder had problems getting off turn two and made contact with the #56 of Steve Weber sending him spinning to the inside of the back stretch. The caution came out and Schroeder was sent to the rear.

On the restart Jans continued to lead but he caution flew once again on lap five when the #27 of Travis Berends lost a right rear tire in turn three. On the restart the yellow came out again for the #71x of Cory Tammen who spun on his own in turn three.

The restart didn’t go very well for the #31g of Jim Gustafson and the #21h of Scott Huston who made contact doing down the back stretch sending them both flying off the track. What looked to be a very hard crash turned out good for both drivers as they were able to walk away unhurt. Huston was charged with the caution and was able to continue while Gustafson was done for the night.

With the time limit in effect the laps were cut from fourteen to ten and the green came back out with Jans continuing to lead. The caution was infectious though as it came out again one lap later for the spinning #38 of Heather Daly in turn three.

Back underway the #F7 of Ryan Buer, who started ninth, had moved into second with only five laps remaining and was applying pressure to Jans. On the white flag lap Buer was able to get a run on Jans off turn two and they went door to door on the back stretch. Buer was on the inside with Jans on the outside as they entered turn three. Buer found the bite he needed and moved into the lead with the checkered flag flying. Jans finished second with Don Barber coming home third.

The twenty lap feature for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds was up next. On the start Shane Sabraski shot into the lead. The caution came out twice early on but after lap three the feature went green the rest of the way. That made for a great race between Sabraski, Jason Cummins and Jason Hoffman. Hoffman was able to take the lead on lap seven but Sabraski came right back and took the lead on lap eleven. Cummins was waiting for his chance to take the lead as he moved past Hoffman for second on lap sixteen. Sabraski was able to pull away a bit at the end and won by five car lengths over Cummins who finished second and Hoffman in third.

WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next with Steve Beach shooting to the lead on lap one. Beach, who is a master on the dry tracks, cruised to an easy win but the best battle was for second between Mike Peterson, Jon Stepan and Jeff Flaten. Second went to Flaten with third going to Stepan.

The last feature of the night was the WISSOTA Late Models. On the start Brian Schultz shot into the lead from his pole starting position with Jeff Wildung in tow. Schultz and Wildung battled it out for the first five laps with Wildung ducking under Schultz for the lead on lap five. Current track point’s leader Lance Bjerkeset went along with Wildung and made the pass for second on Schultz one lap later. That set up a good battle between Wildung and Bjerkeset for the lead. Although Wildung stayed out front for the rest of the way he felt pressure from Bjerkeset the entire time. Schultz went on to finish third.

The next race on the schedule is the Tri Star Challenge Series race on Wednesday, July 27th beginning at 7pm. Sponsors for the race include Monte Motor Sales and KDUZ radio. You can find more information at www.fiestacityspeedway.net

Arpin Takes Big Payday at Fiesta City Speedway

July 17th, 2005

The action started off with the wild Cruiser feature. The win went to the #5h of Dustin Holtquist in a big way as he checked out on the rest of the field to pick up another feature win. Finishing second was Devin DeVos and in third was Mike Fonteyn.

The twenty lap Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stock feature was up next. Zach Ashburn and Dave Goulet led the field from the front row. At the drop of the green Ashburn jumped out to an early and commanding lead. The field was slowed by three cautions in the first 12 laps but that didn’t stop Ashburn from stretching his lead out each time the green flag came back out.

On lap fourteen the yellow came out once again for debris on the track. That bunched the field up once more with Matt Suckow now sitting in second after charging from his 7th starting position. Back underway Ashburn maintained the lead but was now feeling pressure from Suckow who made a nice pass on lap 17 and went on to pick up the feature win. Ashburn was able to hang on to second with the #1 of Brandon Louwagie finishing third.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were up next with Travis Berends leading the field down to the green from his pole starting position.

At the drop of the green Mike Jans shot to the lead and never looked back as he picked up a very convincing feature win. Kelly Timm was able to move up from 5th to claim second and Travis Berends was able to hang onto third.

The Fagen Inc Midwest Modifieds took to the track next with Tyler Limoges and Dominic Gregoire occupying the front row. The first start was called back and on the second try Limoges jumped from the pole into the lead. Zach Johnson, who started third, moved past Gregoire for second and set his sites on the top spot. On lap three Limoges went side by side coming off turn two. Johnson was able to make the pass on the inside and never looked back despite two cautions that slowed the way. Limoges held on to a very solid second place finish with Mike Gregg taking home third.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next. Lance Bjerkeset and Brent Pulskamp took the green flag from the front row but it was Steve Beach who came from his third starting position to take the lead on lap two. Beach never looked back and picked up another feature win at Fiesta City Speedway. Bjerkeset held on to finish second and Pulskamp took over third after Jon Stepan lost a motor on the white flag lap.

The headlining event was up next as the Farmers Union Insurance thirty lap Modified Feature came to the track next. Rookie Mod shoe Tyler Limoges pulled the #1 pill on the redraw and started from the pole position.

On the start the field shot into turn one but it was all for not as Chad Williamson slowed and bunched up the back of the field causing several cars damage. The #23 of Matt Gilbertson sustained the most damage went off on the hook but the rest were able to continue.

On the restart Johnson shot to the lead and began to work his way around the inside of the track on both ends of the speedway. Scott Tofte moved to the rim of the racing surface and shot into second on lap three from his fourth starting position.

Out front though, Johnson was stretching his lead out to almost a straight away. Johnson saw his lead disappear on lap nine when Josh Fleming spun in turn two. That bunched the field back up with Scott Tofte sitting right on the back bumper of Johnson as the field took the green. Tofte slipped up in turn three and went off the track but was able to save the car and come back to the racing surface after losing eight positions.

Steve Arpin was now in second after getting around Jay McDonald in turn three. The Canadian hot shoe began to track down Johnson for the lead. On lap fourteen Arpin drove right up on the back bumper of Johnson and tried to pass but was not able to. One lap later the duo encountered lapped traffic and that was exactly what Arpin needed as he used the cushion to his advantage and drove around the outside and into the lead. One lap later the caution lights came on for the #6x of Ricky Kluver.

The field was back under green with Arpin leading the way and Johnson now feeling the pressure from Jay McDonald and Craig Christianson for second. The caution flag came out on the restart when the #57 of Chad Williamson sustained heavy left front damage to his Arrow chassis after encountering a corner tire in turn two.

Back underway Arpin slowly stretched his lead out to ten car lengths over Johnson who was once again feeling pressure from McDonald and Christianson.

Steve Arpin went on to pick up the $1700 payday with Jay McDonald just edging out Zach Johnson for second at the line.

Fiesta City Speedway Dodges Mother Nature Again

July 11th, 2005

The first class for their feature even was the Cruisers. The feature was short as only two laps were in the book when a red flag for two cars that rolled in turn two. According to track procedures the race is over after any red flag. That handed Devin DeVos the feature win.

The Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stocks were up next with Brandon Louwagie and Ryan Bjerkeset on the front row. Bjerkeset jumped out to the early lead and brought the #60 car of Tom Bahn with him. The duo battled it out until lap 10 when they made contact entering turn one sending Bahn rolling over the guard rail and thru the fence separating the track from the parking lot. After some time Bahn was removed from the car and taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

With just two laps remaining Brandon Louwagie was now in the lead and never looked back picking up his first feature win of the season.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks came on to the racing surface next with Kris Edwards and Russ Carlson sitting on the front row. On the start Cory Tammen shot from his third starting position into the lead. The Clara City native never looked back picking the feature win. Kelly Timm from sixth to finish second and Mike Jans had a nice run finishing third.

The always exciting Fagen Incorporated Midwest Mods rumbled to the track with Zach Johnson occupying the front row. On the start Bayer jumped out to the early lead and looked to be heading towards an easy victory but Zach Johnson was sitting a few car lengths back the whole time. Once Bayer hit lapped traffic Johnson was able to close and on the last lap came right up alongside Bayer but was not able to make the pass as Bayer held on to pick up another feature win at Fiesta City Speedway.

Nice fields of WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next with Zach Schultz and Lance Bjerkeset pacing the field to the green flag. On the start Bjerkeset shot into the lead but down the back stretch Zach Schultz slid under Bjerkeset and moved into the lead. The duo swapped the lead several times until Schultz began to stretch the lead back out. That was all it took as Schultz picked up the feature win with Bjerkeset finishing second and Steve Beach clawing his way into third.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were the next feature event up and were able to give the fans a taste of what to expect next week for the Fagen Incorporated Modified special.

Mike Storck and Matt Gilbertson occupied the front row and on the start Gilbertson shot into the lead. Storck slid back with handling problems. JJ Schuelke found a setup to his liking and quickly moved into second and then ran down Gilbertson for the top spot on lap four. Schuelke never looked back and picked up his second feature win of the season at Fiesta City Speedway. Jamie Lemke ran out of time in his attempts to track down Schuelke and finished second with Terry Engebretson in third.

The final features of the night were the high powered WISSOTA Late Models. Mike Wold started alongside Chuck Kelly on the front row when the green flag dropped. Wold shot to the early lead and appeared to be headed for and easy victory but the #00 car of Lance Bjerkeset made his way into second on lap 5 and began to track down the #151st car of Mike Wold. The last four laps had the fans on their feet as Wold and Bjerkeset raced side by side in turn 2 and 3. Bjerkeset had a run on Wold on the last corner during the last lap and was door to door with Wold at the line. After several anxious moments it was announced that Mike Wold had picked up the win by mere inches over Bjerkeset. Chuck Kelly was able to tie down third.

Bjerkeset Dominates at Fiesta City

June 19th, 2005

The action started early with the Cruiser division feature event. Last weeks winner, Todd Horst, jumped out to an early and commanding lead only to see that diminish after the #23 suffered a flat right front tire. That handed the lead over to Dustin Holquist who went on to pick up the feature win. Mike Fonteyn was able to hold on to second with Devin DeVos finishing third.

The Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stocks were the next feature event on the schedule with Bob Holquist leading the field to the green flag from the pole position. That changed quickly as Ryan Bjerkeset rolled his #00 car into the lead in turn one and looked to be walking away from the rest of the field. Scott Pederson had other things on his mind as he slowly crawled his way up to Bjerkeset’s bumper at the half way mark. Pederson ducked underneath Bjerkeset and went on to pick up the feature win. Matt Suckow worked his way from the 5th starting position to finish second with Bjerkeset fading to third.

The track was smooth and dry slick from top to bottom by the time the WISSOTA Street Stocks worked to the track. Cory Tammen and Jason long paced the field to the green flag and began to run away from the rest of the field at the start of the race. Kelly Timm was trying to track down the top two cars but fell victim to Scott Paulson who made a pass for third on lap three. Paulson then reeled in Long and Tammen and put on a great display of car control when he passed Tammen on the outside and then disposed of Long on the next lap by sliding underneath him. Paulson went on to pick up his second feature win of the season at Fiesta City Speedway despite the race being slowed by one caution. Long held on to second with Tammen in third.

A healthy field of Fagen Incorporated Midwest Modifieds rolled onto the slicked off high banks next. Zach Johnson found himself alongside Danny Bayer on the front row. The duos shot into turn one at the drop of the green with Bayer getting the advantage on the outside. Johnson then came under pressure by the #72 of Tyler Limoges and fell back to second. The caution flew early when the Y69 of Mike Gregg made contact with Jason McCoy in turn two. That bunched up several cars forcing Gregg to tag the end of the field. McCoy sustained front end damage which lead to the next caution on the restart when the Hutchinson, MN hotshoe looped the car in turn two bringing out another caution. The race was getting a very shaky feel to it and that mood reared its ugly head on the next restart when the #07 of Jason Hoffman went end over end off turn one that required a quick trip the hospital with a sore neck. That forced the officials to cut the laps in half to seven. Bayer jumped out to a commanding lead on the next restart and never looked back. Limoges finished second with Johnson taking home third.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next. Chassis builder, Steve Beach, jumped to the lead from the pole position on the start and never looked back as he led the entire way. The best race on the track was between the second and third place cars of Jason Vejtruba and Jeff Flaten. The two battled the entire way with Vejtruba just nipping Flaten at the line for second.

A nice field of WISSOTA Modifieds powered to the racing surface next. The 2004 WISSOTA Mod RoY, Matt Gilbertson, started on the pole with Dennis Bitzan to his outside. Bitzan was making his first appearance in quite some time to the 4/10 mile track but it didn’t show as he shot out to the lead early and appeared to be headed for an easy payday. The 4th starting car of Jamie Lemke had something to say about that has he followed Bitzan around for the first 12 laps and then made a move down the backstretch ducking underneath the #14 car. Lemke took the white flag and then the checkered one lap later as he picked up his second win of the season at FCS. Bitzan finished second and rookie sensation Andy Gordon was third.

The final class of the night came to the track next as the fan favorite WISSOTA Late Models rolled onto the racing surface. Mike Wold and Lance Bjerkeset comprised the front row and set the pace to the green. On the start, the caution flew right away as the #38 of Jerry Pridal slid up and into the marbles which saw the veteran pilot make contact with the outside retaining wall on the front stretch. Pridal was okay and after a quick trip to the work area was able to tag the end of the field. On the restart Bjerkeset shot to the lead and never looked back as he picked up his second feature win of the season at FCS. Don Eischens finished second with Myron Tschakert coming from his fifth starting position to finish third.

Next week will see a very special night at the races when the 151st Field Artillery Regiment from Madison, Appleton, Ortonville, Olivia, Morris, and Marshall; and the Family Readiness Group will be the title sponsors for the evening’s events. Race time is 7:30. You can find more information on our website at www.fiestacityspeedway.net

Fiesta City Speedway Beats Mother Nature

June 12th, 2005

The action kicked off with the cruiser feature event as the four cylinder cars took to the track. Dustin Holtquist jumped out to the early lead and went on to dominate the feature event as Todd Horst snuck into second and tried to track down the leader of Holtquist. Horst would come up short at the line but first at the pay window as Holtquist crossed first but was later dq’d after tech inspection.

The Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stocks came out for their feature event with Matt Suckow and Chris Bahn leading the field down to accept the green flag. Bahn jumped out to the early lead and looked to have the field covered but Suckow tracked him down at the halfway point and picked up the feature win.

WISSOTA Street Stocks pulled to the track next for their feature event. The Street Stocks were the first WISSOTA class where the winner would accept a case of 15w40 Extreme Performance Plus synthetic racing oil and the action didn’t let anyone down in attendance. The race started out with Mark Klassen and Travis Berends on the front row with Klassen getting the jump and leading the field into turn one. The caution flew right away as Heather Dally lost a right rear tire that ended her night and forced the field to a complete restart. The restart saw Mike Jans get a great start and by the time the field exited turn four to complete lap the Clarkfield native was in the lead. The red flag flew on lap 6 when the #73 car of Chad Nuese rolled in turn one. Nuese was all right and the race went back to green shortly thereafter. On the restart Klassen slipped just a little allowing Kelly Timm, Jason Long and Cory Tammen to sneak but. Klassen wasn’t done though as he fell back into fourth and stayed with the lead pack. Jans continued to lead but bad luck struck two laps later as the #25 blew a right rear tire forcing another yellow flag. The restart had Kelly Timm in the lead with Long and Tammen sitting behind him. The trio gave the fans a treat as they went three wide on several occasions battling for the lead. On the last lap Long was able to edge out Tammen and Timm to pick up the feature win.

The Fagen Incorporated Midwest Modifieds rolled onto the racing surface next with Tim Schlenner leading the sixteen car field to the green. Schlenner shot to the early lead and began to stretch a good size lead on the rest of the field until Danny Bayer moved into second on lap 3. A couple laps later Bayer spun coming off turn four moving the “Elrosa Rocket” to the tail end of the field and bringing out the only caution of the feature. Schlenner made it look easy as he cruised to almost a straightaway length win.

The track was starting to get heavier as the WISSOTA Super Stocks came to the track next for their feature event. The high humidity and rainfall from earlier in the day had started to allow some moisture to come up from under the track giving the pole sitter, of Lance Bjerkeset, all the Mopar under his hood needed to grab onto as he shot to the lead at the drop of the green and was only challenged one time on a lap 8 restart when the #15f of Jeff Flaten went flying off turn four ending his night. Jason Vejtruba and Jon Stepan waged a good battle for second with the duo trading the spot twice on the last lap. Stepan was able to edge Vejtruba for second.

The high-powered open wheeled WISSOTA Modifieds made their way to the track next. Paul Schultz made the long tow from Grand Rapids to start on the pole for the feature. The feature was forced to slow on lap one when the #21N of Curt Newburg spun in turn three to bring out the caution. On the restart Matt Gilbertson jumped to the lead bringing JJ Schuelke with him into second as Schultz faded back with what appeared to be mechanical problems. Gilbertson and Schuelke stretched out a half a straightaway lead over the rest of the field by lap six. One lap later the luck would change for Gilbertson as he shelled a set of rear end gears coming out of turn four bringing out the caution. On the restart Schuelke shot to the lead and never looked back as he picked up the feature win in his new Elite Chassis. Ryan Canon finished second with Andy Gordon coming home in third.

The last class of the evening were the WISSOTA Late Models. Jerry Pridal and Myron Tschakert occupied the front row and shot to the lead on the start. Pridal settled into second and stayed with Tschakert till the midpoint of the race. After that the Kent, MN native found a grove he liked and stretched his lead out to ten car lengths and never looked back. Tschakert picked up his first feature win of the season in convincing fashion with Pridal finishing second and Corey Nelson finishing third.

Racing action continues on June 17th, 2005 as it will be Avicenna night at the race track. Gates open at 5 with racing action kicking off at 7:30 sharp. Please visit our NEW website at www.fiestacityspeedway.net for more information.

Limoges Flexes Muscle at Fiesta City

May 22nd, 2005

A first lap caution bunched the field back up with Renneke jumping back out to the lead. Schmidt was right on his back bumper, literally, when the caution came back out on lap 9 after the duo locked bumpers going down the back stretch. Renneke spun and was sitting backwards on the track with the caution being charged to Schmidt who was forced to tag the end of the field. That moved the Renneke back into the lead and the #17 of Scott Pederson into second. With only a handful of laps left Pederson and Renneke went at it tooth and nail with Renneke edging Pederson out by just under a car length at the line.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were out next with Don Barber and Jason Long sitting on the front row. On the start Long jumped out to the lead with Barber fading after having to go pit side with a flat tire. Mike Jans was the car on the move as he slid into second halfway thru the feature event. Long and Jans fought it out tooth and nail with Long edging Jans at the line for his first feature win of the season.

The Fagen Incorporated Midwest Modifieds brought a nice field of 26 cars to the track next as Andy Kotek paced the field from the pole position. Tyler Limoges started outside on the front row and jumped to the lead at the drop of the green. The Redwood Falls native checked out on the rest of the field but was slowed by four cautions which saw his straightaway lead shrink several times. The handful of cautions allowed the hard charging Danny Bayer to move from his 21st starting position all the way up to challenge Limoges for the lead after the fourth and final caution. Bayer didn’t have anything left for Limoges as he went on to pick up the feature win in convincing fashion. Bayer came across the line next with Nate Heinrich finishing third.

WISSOTA Super Stocks rolled to the track next. Zach Schultz and Lance Bjerkeset comprising the front row with Bjerkeset jumping out to the lead at the drop of the green. That was all the multi time track champion needed as he never looked back and was never seriously challenged. The field was bunched back up on several occasions as the yellow flew three times.

The high powered WISSOTA Modifieds took to the track next with Scott Ward and Matt Gilbertson sitting on the front row. At the drop of the green Gilbertson and Ward went door to door thru turn turns 1 and 2 with Gilbertson getting the edge off the corner. Ward suddenly slowed down the backstretch and pulled to the infield with a broken driveshaft. That brought out the lone caution for debris and bunched the field back up for a complete restart. Gilbertson jumped back out to the lead at the drop of the green with rookie Andy Gordon settling in to second. Gordon showed Gilbertson a wheel several times but was never able to make the pass as the hometown driver went on to pick up his second feature win of the season at Fiesta City Speedway. Gordon finished second with Jamie Lemke charging from his 7th starting position to come home third.

The final feature of the night came to the track as the always exciting WISSOTA Late Models rolled to the racing surface. Corey Nelson and Lance Bjerkeset paced the field down to take the green flag with Bjerkeset jumping out to lead his second feature of the evening. Nelson dropped back as Myron Tschakert sliced his way thru the field from his 5th starting to position to challenge Bjerkeset for the lead on lap 4. The two put on an extremely good race with Tschakert getting under Bjerkeset several times but was not able to make a pass for the lead. That allowed Bjerkeset to pick up his second feature win of the evening as he held off Tschakert by half a car length at the line.

Racing action will take place next week with starting time at 7:30. For more information please visit us on the web at www.fiestacitypseedway.net

Lemke Blisters Mod Field at Fiesta City Speedway

May 8th, 2005

The action started out with the WISSOTA Street Stock feature event. Scott Huston and Kelly Timm paced the field to the green flag. When the field entered turn one Timm shot up the race track and went off the track bringing out a yellow and forcing a complete restart. That moved Scott Paulson up to the outside front row and set the stage for the rest of the feature. At the drop of the green Paulson ran away from the rest of field picking up his first feature win of the season at Fiesta City Speedway. Scott Huston ran a great race and picked up second. Mike Jans in the #25 edged Steve Weber for third.

The Farmers Union Insurance Pure Stocks were up next for their feature event. Tim Rhode and Ryan Bjerkeset made up the front row and when the green came out the field scattered with cars going three and four wide into turn one. The caution came out before the field could complete lap one for the #26 of Jon Dingfelder who spun as he exited turn four. On the restart the field scattered once again and complete one lap when the caution came back out for the #00 car of Ryan Bjerkeset and the #26 of Dingfelder went flying off the backstretch. That brought out the red so the two cars could be pulled back onto the track. Scott Pederson was the leader after lap #1 and paced the field back down to take the green on the restart. Pederson took off with the #27s of Jeff Stitt in tow as the duo began to separate from the rest of the pack. Stitt continued to look to the inside of Pederson but was never able to make the pass. Pederson took the win with Stitt in second and Jon Schmidt in third.

The WISSOTA Modifieds came rumbling to the track for their feature event next with Hutchinson’s Jamie Lemke and Aberdeen’s Chaun Peterson comprising the front row. The race was almost over before it even started as Lemke dusted the field by almost half a lap. The only caution came after the start was called back by track officials.

The newest classes to the track, the WISSOTA Super Stocks, were up next for their feature. Steve Beach started on the pole but outside front row starter Jeff Flaten jumped out to the early lead. Beach eventually ran down Flaten and pulled away to an impressive in his #28x Eagle Chassis. Zach Schultz finished a convincing second with Flaten locking down third.

The Fagen Inc. Midwest Modified were up next. A nice field was on hand and the “Franklin Flyer”, Dan Menk, meant business from his inside pole starting position as he jumped out to a commanding lead at the start of the race. The only caution of the race came on lap two for the #23 of Jon Schuelke who was forced to tag the end of the field. Back under green Menk began to edge away from the field but the car to watch was the #10 of Nate Heinrich as the car began to come in around the halfway point. Heinrich began to slowly close on Menk and just as the duo were beginning to encounter the back of the field to relegate them a lap down Menk began to step up the game a bit. As the two battled side by side for the lead with two laps to go Menk used a lapped car to put a pick on Heinrich and give himself enough of a cushion to go on to a comfortable win. Heinrich finished second with Mark Oftedahl in third.

A nice field of eighteen WISSOTA Late Models came to the track for the final feature of the night. The young gun out of Spicer, MN, Brady Johanneck drew the good number and started on the pole with Shawn Malsam to his outside. On the start Malsam threw his #8 MasterSbilt racecar up on the cushion and drove past Johanneck to take over the lead. The car to watch though was sixth place starter Don Eischens from Richmond, MN who began to weave his way thru traffic. Eventually Eischens cleared Johanneck and began to track down Malsam. Bad luck hit Eischens several laps later as he was about to close to within a car length of Malsam when his right front upper A-frame collapsed ending his night as he went off on the hook. That moved the hard charging Brian Schultz up the second position. Schultz had been putting on a passing clinic of his own after moving up from his 10th starting position. Malsam was able to stretch his lead out though after the restart only to see it dwindle back to nothing once again when the caution came out for the #75 of Eilers who had problems and exited the track off turn four. Eilers night was finished as he went off on the hook. Back under green Malsam never looked back as he drove into the Gatorade Winners Circle at Fiesta City Speedway for the second time in his short late model career. Schultz finished second with Lance Bjerkeset finishing third.
