Mother Nature foils July 4th at Big Country; But The Belated festivities were even better

July 12th, 2008

This cancelled affair did not dampen the spirits of the racers or fans alike since we had racing slated for the following evening and the forecast was in our favor!

To begin our belated Independence Day festivities were the Wissota sanctioned
Modified class. In this extremely fast paced alcohol fueled class, a lot of changes can occur in the blink of an eye. And they did several times before local and veteran driver Dave Freeman, earning every bit of his winning finish, pulled out front to clean sweep the night with a win in both his qualifying and feature events. At one point there was hope for friend and rival, Jody Kropp also of Great Falls, but would come from a fifth place starting position only to settle for the second place finish. Paul Donnelly, another of Great Falls drivers, rounds out the top three.

In the Wissota sanctioned Street Stock class, it was Marvin Gonzalez of Black Eagle all the way. He pulled out front to the front at the beginning of the twenty lap feature event and held onto the lead to take it right to the winners circle. The current points leader of this class, Beau Brown of Deer Lodge, coming from a sixth place start, claimed his stake to the second place finish, with Mike Anderson coming down from Havre, took the third place honors.

Next to take the stage was the Wissota sanctioned Late Model class. They kicked off the feature event, each one of them with a flag in hand. No, not a checkered flag, but full sized American flags. Not that they are not all out there aspiring to claim the winning honors of carrying the “checkered flag”, but this is the holiday in which we reflect on what it means to claim the honor and privilege of calling ourselves Americans! And the race was on! Local Jody Kropp, after finishing second in his Modified racecar, climbed into his Late Model to clean sweep the completion in a win in his qualifying and feature events. Rich Herman of Billings came from the eighth place start to claim the second place finish, while ironically, Rory Minster of Great Falls starting ninth and came in right behind Herman for third.

In the Wissota sanctioned Super Stock class Ryan Wells of Hingham, starting in the seventh place claims victory. But the battle was amongst local brothers and very experienced drivers Pacer and Curt Popham for the second place honors. Eldest brother Pacer came from the eighth place starting position and tore through the pack of cars, to even to pass younger brother Curt, who started third, for the second place finish with Curt keeping his grip on third.

“Lightening McQueen” driven by local and current points leader for our local Not So Pure Stock class, Michael Price, came from the ninth place start going directly to the winner circle. Brian Chaon of Great Falls ran with the leaders throughout the race and took the second place finishing position while coming from an amazing thirteenth place starting position local Keith Laverdure clawed his way through the pack to claim the third place finish.

We always have a great time at the Electric City Speedway and thank all who came out, and would like to invite you to come out to our next scheduled race that is slated to run the Wissota sanctioned Street Stock, Super Stock, and Modified classes as well as our local Not So Pure Stock class. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with racing to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Big Country Speedway

September 7th, 2007

The first trophy dash out would be the Legends. Terry Plummer powered his way to the win besting Tyler Chrisinger and Jace Hanson. These three would battle all night. Darrel Stutzman won the dash for the I-25 GAM’s beating Dan Alamaa and Aaron Paulson to the stripe. In the SLM’s, Todd Hunter held off Bill Gray, Teague Heilbrun and Brad Davis for the win. The slow six qualifiers would get the chance to run a trophy dash in the Mini Stocks. Nick Tabor jumped to an early lead and took off. He won over George Maldonado Jr and Jeremy Duran.

Chris Baker took the win in the Modlites over Alex Amen and Roger Hornby. The Super ProTrucks were out next and Chris Titus won by beating Larry Stibitz, Kevin Snow and Tim Adkins. The Pure Stock trophy dash was won by Chad Nelson as he beat his fellow I-25 drivers Kyle Shanahan and Bo Dewberry to take the trophy.

With so many Legends on hand, there would be three heat races for the drivers to qualify for the mains. In the first heat, Jason Richardson from Grapevine Texas charged hard to the front. Unfortunately for him, most of his passing was done under the yellow out of bounds line. He crossed the finish line first, but was penalized two positions for the infractions. He would finish third. Tom Hanson of Gering was declared the winner with John Kerchner second.

Heat two was just a bit rougher than the first heat. Mike Webber and Scotty
Scott had contact in turn three with Scott getting spun. Something broke on
the Scott car and he was towed off. Webber had to restart from the back of the field. On the restart, Webber was involved in another incident, this time
with Spike Schultze of Montana. Webber was unable to continue. Up front, Dirk
Henry had been leading the race when he and Dean Abbey of Comanche Texas had
some contact on the white flag lap. Abbey was sent to the rear, Henry retain
his spot. A green, white, checkered finish followed and Henry took the win.
Jason Duncan finished second, Cameron Millard third.

David Miller brought out the caution on the very first lap of the third heat
when he spun on the back stretch. The cars were lined back up for an
original restart. Steven Abbey also form Comanche Texas took the lead and was able to hold off Danny Medina of Colorado Springs. David Miller recovered to take the third spot.

At the start of the I-25 GAM heat race, Robert Myer’s car was leaking gas at
a fairly good rate. After three tries to black flag him for safety, the race
went to caution for safety. Myer’s fuel cap was put on and he resumed at the
back of the pack. The race went to green. Steve McConnaughey and Mike
Edwards both spun in turn one causing the yellow. Both to the back. Jimi Dye was leading the race, and after another caution for spinning cars, he held on to win over Tim Hasbrouck and Mike Edwards.

Richard Perry powered his SLM to victory lane beating Desiree Trones and
Chasten Sbraviti in their heat race. Two heats for the Mini Stocks. The first
heat was won by Nick Tabor over George Maldonado Jr and Jeremy Duran. Heat two
found Scotty Soder taking his Pinto to the stripe first beating Tom Davis and
Jeff Campbell. The Modlites heat was won by Chris Baker as he beat Alex Amen
and Roger Hornby. Kevin Snow took his S10 ProTruck to the front and won
their heat besting Larry Stibitz and Chris Titus.

Two heats for the Pure Stocks with seven cars in each heat. Jim
VanValkenburgh got to the front and never looked back to his competition. He
powered the Silver Slash Chevy to the win over Scott Gault and Willie Pandullo. In the second heat, Bo Dewberry had jsut enough for John Humphrey. John tired to pass Bo many times, but at the line, Bo won over John by just .150 seconds. It was a very close race. Chad Nelson took third, Chad Cowan fourth and Kyle Shanahan fifth.

The Legends would have two main events for the night. First main would be
for the Semi Pro division. Fourteen cars started the main, but only 10 ended up finishing. On the very first lap, David Miller who started in the middle of the pack, spun on the back chute. Many of the drivers missed David, but
unfortunately for Jennifer Johnson, Luke Sweckard, Brittney Johnson and Tom
Hanson, they all collected David and each other. The race was red flagged. All of the drivers were unhurt, only David complained of some pain. All the cars were helped off the track, and the track crews did a great job cleaning up the mess. Only Jennifer Johnson would make it back out to finish in 10th place, 25 laps down. When the race resumed, Jason Richardson battled with John Hilliker of Montana for the lead. Once Jason had the lead, John could not find away to get around the 58 car. Jason held on to take the win. Hilliker took second, Keith Law third, Brent Miller fourth and Brittney Duncan in the fifth spot.

The second main event would feature the Pro/Masters division. Early in the
race, Spike Schultze and Mike Webber had contact sending Webber spinning.
Schultze was sent to the back, Webber maintained position. This battle would
continue throughout the race until lap 28. Webber and Schultze had been trading paint when the two hit hard in turn four. The cars became entangled and coming out of four drove straight to the wall at the start of the front chute. Webber’s car slammed the wall almost head on with the back end becoming airborn. The top of Webber’s car may have made contact with the catch fence. Schultze’s car flew up in the air as it impacted the wall, then if turned sideways and almost rolled over. The car came to rest just to the right of the flag stand. The race was red flagged as track and safety crews rolled to the wrecked cars. Schultze was shaken but unurt. His car sustained heavy front damage. Webber was less fortunate. He complained of neck, back and arm pain, and was also having trouble breathing. Emergency personnel from AMR and Fire District Number one took great care to remove Webber form his car as carefully as possible. Webber was placed on a backboard and transported to the hospital as a precaution. The track was cleared and the race resumed. Jace Hanson had taken the lead early on, but he was pressured by Terry Plummer, Tyler Chrisinger and Steven Abby. Abbey managed to get around Chrisinger late in the race, but could not catch Plummer and Hanson. Hanson held off Plummer to take the win. Plummer finished second, Abbey third, Chrisinger fourth with Danny Medina taking the fifth spot.

Twelve I-25 GAM’s would start the 35 lap main event. Early on in the race,
there was lots of side by side action as it appeared the cars were all having
trouble getting grip on the track. On lap 13, Aaron Paulson was battleing
with Rick McComb. Paulson was on the outside of McComb when the two made contact on the front stretch. Paulson’s car spun around and then slammed hard into the turn one wall backwards. Another red flagged main. Paulson was unhurt, but his car had very heavy damage to the left rear and the left front. A flatbed wrecker was needed to remove Paulson’s car. Dan Alamaa who had started deep in the field was slowly working his way to the front. Alamaa would go one to take the lead and the victory beating Darrel Stutzman, Dean Olson, Rick McComb and William Frick.

The SLM main would have a very strange start to it. On the first lap, Bill
Gray made contact with another car and ended up breaking something major in
the engine. Gray continued to the back stretch where safety crews stopped him. Gray’s car was smoking and steaming heavily and crews wanted to check on his status. The race was red flagged in order to get the fluid left by Gray’s car cleaned up. As the cars sat on the track in turn four, Rocky Rockwell had
to, how shall I say it, relieve himself urgently. Once track crews finished the clean up, the field got underway with everyone but Rockwell, who headed for the pits. Track officials delayed the start of the race waiting for Rockwell, but he never returned. Last report was that he wasn’t feeling very well, and did not feel he could have make the race. Hopefully he’s feeling better now, but after telling his story, he may not. Todd Hunter worked his way to the lead, but on lap 20 his car faultered and he left the track. This opened the door for Teague Heilbrun to take over the lead. Heilbrun held off a very hard charging Richard Perry to win the main. Perry took second, Desiree Trones third, Cameron Kelly fourth and David Kelly in fifth.

The Mini Stock main event would unfortunately also have a red flag. During
the opening laps, Patty Kaiser and Tom Davis made contact in turn three.
Davis’ car sustained some body damage and had to go to the pits for repairs and to change a flat tire. Kaiser was sent to the rear, and Davis fell in behind once he returned to the track. Ronnie Ripley and Dustan Gooden were racing hard for the lead. Dustan was leading when there was some contact from Ronnie which sent Dustan spinning bringing out the caution. Dustan regained his spot and Ronnie had to go to the back. Once back under green, Dustan continued to lead followed by Jeff Campbell. Meghann Gooden was racing hard with Scotty Soder for position. Meghann got to the inside of Scotty coming out of turn four. Scotty may have not known that Meghann was there and he turned down hitting Meghann’s car. The #53 car shot towards the wall just to the left of the flag stand where it hit almost head on and at full throttle. The car stayed up against the wall coming to rest just before turn one. Scotty’s car spun down the front chute and came to stop near the apron and infield. Once again, another red flag. Scotty was unhurt, and would continue at the back following track clean up. Track and emergency crews raced to Meghann’s car and assisted her climbing out of the totaled Mini Stock. Meghann did sustain some heavy bruising to her left arm and hand, but thankful no other injuries. It was a very scary crash. Once the track was cleared, the race resumed with Dustan still holding off Campbell. Dustan took the win beating Cambell, Nick Tabor, Ripley and Tom Davis. Meghann was able to join Dustan in victory lane much to the relief of Dustan and all the race fans.

Twenty five laps for the Modlites and their main. After seeing Chris Baker
win both the dash and heat, Alex Amen must have been on a mission. Once Alex
took the lead, he took off. Alex won the red flag free main beating Chris,
Roger Hornby, Bill McClintock and Mark Chisholm.

Only three Super ProTrucks would start the main as Larry Stibitz truck
suffered a broken axle in the heat race. Kevin Snow had handling issues with his truck and coming off of turn four, the truck just would not turn. Kevin hit the front chute wall hard, but did keep the truck under control and was able to drive it to the pits. That left just Chris Titus and Tim Adkins to finish the race. Titus won over Adkins.

The Pure Stocks would run a twenty five lap main with fourteen cars. Chad
Cowan started up front and used his starting postion to lead every lap. Chad
Nelson pressured Cowan for the entire race, but could never quite get around
the #76. Cowan helf off Nelson to take the victory. Nelson finished second, Bo Dewberry took third, John Humphrey in fourth with Mark Sopr coming across in fifth.

Busy Night at BCS

August 31st, 2007

The GAM’s would be the first trophy dash out, and Justin Fornstrom would
take the win beating Shawn Trackwell and Tommy Evans. Next were the Mini Sprints with Larry Pachello winning over Dwight Hoelscher and Brent Rees. Brent had a scary moment in hot laps when his right rear wheel came off in turn four and caused the car to spin hitting the wall. Brent had a bit of a limp when he climbed out of the car, but was otherwise unhurt. Good thing tracks have catch fencing, otherwise his wheel would have been in the grandstands.

Alex Amen continues to dominate the Modlites as he won the dash over Roger
Hornby and Bill McClintock. The Warriors dash had a first lap crash that sent
me running for my life. Cory Mallo was trying the high groove to pass the
field. Coming into turn three, three wide, Cory got tagged by Ben Hendricks.
Cory almost had the car saved, but it veered hard left and slammed the wall at turn four by the track entrance. I thought the car was coming through the
entrance where I was standing, so I gave the knee a good test and ran like hell. Luckily, neither Cory or I were hurt. Cory’s night was done as there was heavy damage to the front of his car. Jay Brown went on to win his first dash. Jay is paralized form the waist down and uses hand controls to race. he has been getting better every week and this time he finally did it. Way to Go Jay!

Brian Ott held off Raymond Hanson and Mark Kelly to win the Pure Stock
trophy dash. Don Morrison won over Mark Asbill and Mark Ramey to take the Dwarf Cars dash. The Micro Sprints had a hard time keeping cars running before the green flag dropped. Three cars had to head for the pits and not make the dash. Jacob Wolfe won over Jon James and Johnny Powers. In the Super ProTrucks, Larry Stibitz from Laramie held on to win besting Chris Titus and Kevin Snow.

Justin Fornstrom would win his second GAM race of the night as he beat
Dwayne Winkels ( and yes Joe Starr, it is Dodge powered ) and Shawn Trackwell in the heat. Tom Evans Sr and Sam calvetti had some issues on the track and both were DQ’d for their actions. Stan Allen won the first heat for the Mini
Sprints over Tim Weland and Justin Mallo. Heat two found Larry Pachello in the winner circle again as he won over Larry Kassel and Paul Babich. Once again, Alex Amen won in the Modlites besting Roger Hornby and Bill McClintock. Kecia Doll and Johnny Powers had contact on the first lap of the Warriors heat, back to an original restart. From there it would be David Swanson working his way through the field to take the 12 lap race. Second went to Kecia Doll, third to Jessica Pandullo.

Mark Sopr found a line and managed to get his car to the front in the Pure
Stock heat. Sandy Thompson and Brian Ott gave chase but could not catch Sopr
as he won with Thompson second, Ott third. Two heats for the Dwarf Cars. First heat had Jacob Muehlbauer winning over Scott Weaver and Andy Rogers. Heat two found Don Morrison winning, Mark Asbill second and Barb Drager third. Two heats also for the Micro Sprints. Cory Rice has something break on his car on lap six, he would not finish. Robert DeRouchey held off Johnny Powers and Jacob Wolfe to take the win. In heat two, Cory Mallo won over Nick Rigali and Andy Farley. Kevin Snow and Larry Stibitz got together on the front chute during the third lap. Both to the back. Tim Adkins went had a good run as he beat Chris Titus to take the heat.

On to the Main Events. On the GAM main, it would be a tough race for Tom
Evans Sr. On lap eight in turn two, Shawn Trackwell spun and got hit by Sam
Calvetti. Evans tried to take the high groove and miss the wreck, but ended up in the tires and the track exit. No one was hurt, but Evans car had heavy
ritght front damage and would not continue. Calvetti also left the track with
unknown damage. Rodger Jessel driving a very good race, managed his way to the front and took the win beating Tommy Evans and Justin Fornstrom. Rodger said that this win was for his son Bill, who is still recovering in the hospital following as accident at work.

It was a very clean and caution free main for the Mini Sprints. Brent Rees
took an early lead and was gone. Dwight Hoelscher who would finish second and
Paul Babcih who finished third couls not keep up with Rees’ speeding car.
Nice recovery for Brent after hit practice incident.

Alex Amen completed the sweep by winning the main again beating Roger Hornby
and Bill McClintock. Alex had a super day by having quick time, winning the
dash, heat and main. Nice Job Alex!

David Swanson took his time, and made careful moves to advance his way to
the front. Starting in the back, this was the best way to get to the front.
Once the checkers dropped, Swanson had won the main beating Jessica Pandullo and Kecia Doll.

What a race in the Pure Stock Main. John Humphrey, Sandy Thompson and Mark
Sopr put on a clinic of how to run side by side. Humphrey lead most of the
race until on lap 23, Sopr managed to get to the inside and passed Humphrey for the lead. Humphrey then had to contend with Thompson who looked like she
would follow Sopr through the opening. Not to be as Humphrey closed the door.
Sopr went on to win with Humphrey coming in second and Thompson third.

On to the Dwarf Cars main event. Jacob Muehlbauer is always tough at BCS,
and tonight was no exception. Jacob worked his way to the front quickly, then
proceeded to lap the field. If he had just a few more laps, he probably would
have. Jacob took the main beating Stu Carlson and Andy Rogers.

Austin Farley is just super fast when in comes to the Micro Sprints. He
again showed just how quick he is as he took the main event winning over brother Andy and Nick Rigali.

The Super ProTrucks had their Mania main event, and with just four trucks,
it would be 35 laps. Larry Stibitz took the win besting Chris Titus, Tim
Adkins and Kevin Snow. However, in post race tech, Stibitz truck was found to have an illegal part in the engine, and he was DQ’d for the infraction. That moved everyone up giving the win to Chris Titus.

Recap notes provided by Charlotte Hughes.

Next Saturday will be a very busy and full night. If variety is the spice of
life, then you’ll want to be at BCS as nine divisions are scheduled to race.
The I-25 speedway GAM’s will be back and they put on a great show last year.
Along with the GAM’s, I’ve heard some of the Mini Stocks from I-25 may also
show up. And The Legneds will be back for last time this season. You don’t
want to miss this show.

Big Country Speedway

August 25th, 2007

Alec Sara won the first dash for the Mini Cups by beating Brandon Bernhardt
and Austin Farley to the line. Phil Peconi lead every lap in the Legends dash
until on lap seven he was tagged by Kyle Clegg and spun. Clegg was sent to
the back, Peconi got his spot back. A green, white, checkered quick dash
followed with Peconi holding off Darrell Stewart. Kevin Collins from Gering beat fellow Gering resident Chad Cowan to win the Super Stock dash.

Chris Titus bested Larry Stibitz to win the dash for the Super ProTrucks. In
the Late Model dash, Rusty Meranda wins over Paul Fleming and points leader
Gary Hobbs. Mike Cole took the Beemer to victory lane in the Mini Stocks as
he held off Ronnie Ripley and Jeff Campbell. Jim VanValkenburgh jumped out to
a quick lead and won the Pure Stock dash over Brian Ott and Sandy Thompson.

First heat race out would be the Mini Cups. Tristan Tweebeeke spun in turn
four and ended up sideways on the track. Kurt Larke coming into turns three
and four didn’t see the 22 car because of bright sunshine and hit Tristan’s car in the door. There was heavy front damage to Kurt’s car, and left side
damage to Tristan’s. Both young men were unhurt in the accident, but their cars were unable to continue. Alec Sara won his second event of the night beating Austin Farley to the line.

Two heats for the Legends. In the first heat, Wayne Barlock wins over Mike
Murr and David Miller. Brent Miller beats Jason Duncan and Scotty Scott to win
heat two. Dave Brown got tagged by Gary Lamb in the first lap of the Super
Stock heat. Brown ended up close to the turn three wall with Chad Cowan almost
hitting him. It was close, but no contact. Once the race resumed, Kevin
Collins was able to hold on for the win beating Eric Phelps and Cowan.

Chris Titus was on his way to a sweep of the Super ProTruck events. He
already had won the trophy dash, and after battling with Kevin Snow for a few
laps, won the heat race. Snow took second, Larry Stibitz third and Tim Atkins
fourth. The Late Model heat got off to a rough start as on the first lap Aaron Cox was loose in turn one. Gary Hobbs tagged the back of the Cox car and broke the right fender of his car. Tom Hushbeck barely missed getting involved. One the race was restarted, Alan Phelps wasted no time taking the lead. He would feel plenty of pressure as Chris Atkinson came from the back and made it a close finish. Phelps won over Atkinson by just .188 seconds. Hobbs finished third.

The Mini Stocks heat race found Scotty Soder and his Pinto winning over
Ronnie Ripley and Meghann Gooden. Mike Cole spun in turn two and Jeff Campbell having no where to go and not enough time to stop, hit the left side of Cole’s car. Neither driver was hurt, but Cole did not finish the race. Campbell ended up finishing fourth. Brian Ott knew Sandy Thompson was right behind him as he could feel the pressure. Sandy kept trying, but could not find a way around Ott. Behind Sandy, John Humphrey, Mark Sopr and Jim VanValkenburgh had a great battle for thirs, fourth and fifth. Ott held on to win over Sandy by just 3/10ths at the line.

Brandon Bernhardt won the Mini Cup main beating Austin Farley and Andy
Farley to the stripe. Tristan Tweebeeke was able to get his car repaired and
finished in fifth. Tyler Luttrull went out on lap four with what I believe was a broken chain. I want to give a “shout out” to Tyler. It’s been a tough year for this young man, but he has kept trying and I know someday we’ll see him in the winners circle. Keep after it Tyler!

Seventeen Legends would start the twenty five lap main event. The race ran
caution free until lap 20 when there was some contact between Wayne Barlock
and Brent Miller. Then on the white flag lap, Kuke Sweckart spun bringing out
the caution and setting up a green, white, checkered finish. Jace Hanson who
had been leading most of the race would now have to hold off Darrell Stewart
and Kyle Clegg for two laps. Jace did exactly that and found himself taking
home the hardware. All seventeen cars finished the race. Nice Job Legends!

Gary Lamb spun on lap 2 of the Super Stock main bringing out the caution.
Chad Cowan was running away with the race and it looked as if he might lap the
entire field. Justin Mallo, Eric Phelps and Kevin Collins all gave chase, but
could not match Cowan’s speed. Collins went out on lap 18, unknown what
happened to his car. Cowan took the main over Mallo and Phelps by almost ten full seconds.

Chris Titus completed the sweep in the Super ProTrucks main event winning
over Kevin Snow, Larry Stibitz and Tim Atkins. Atkins finished 4 laps down due
to the fuel cap not being in place at the start of the race. Atkin’s truck
dumped fuel from the drop of the green flag and he had to go to the pits and
get the cap put on.

It was a wild main event for the Late Models. There were multiply spins by
Tom Hushbeck, Rusty Meranda and Aaron Cox. Even a car leaving the track to
avoid a spinning car. Alan Phelps ended up on the water barrels just behind the turn two exit. Alan returned to the track, but left just a few laps later. Chris Atkinson managed to avoid all the incidents and won the main over Gary Hobbs and Paul Fleming. I believe this is Paul’s best finish in a main this year, so, Way To Go Paul!

Nick Tabor jumped out to an early lead in the Mini Stock main. He had to
contend with Ronnie Ripley and Meghann Gooden for all twenty five laps. Both
Ripley and Gooden tried many times to get around Tabor, but just couldn’t quite get it done. Nick holds on to win just his second career main event. Ripley takes second, Gooden third. David Swanson in his first Mini Stock main comes home a respectable sixth.

The Pure Stocks would start 10 cars in their 25 lap main, and would run the
race caution free. Jim VanValkenburgh took the lead early, but had constant
pressure from John Humphrey. Humphrey had took feel the heat from behind as
Sandy Thompson was right there. Sandy also had to be concerned with Mark Sopr
trying to make the pass and take over third. Van did manage to hold on for the win, with Humphrey second, Thompson third and Sopr fourth. Bubba Willox
finished sixth, but might have done better if he would have remembered he was
running on asphalt and not dirt. Just kidding Bubba! Nice slide job in the
corners.

Donations Reach $1700 for Injuried Driver & Crew Member, 8/11/07

August 16th, 2007

A moment of silence was held as everyone said a prayer for Billy and Mike. We all wish them a very speedy and safe recovery. A tradition at BCS is to “Pass
the Helmet” to help raise funds for those in need. I’m happy to report that
over $1750 was raised to help the Jessel and Fallis families with expenses. I
want to pass along my sincerest “Thanks” to everyone who donated.

Out for the first trophy dash and their last appearence this year were the
CARC Mod Coupes. Bob Land started the night off right as he won over Joe St.
Peter and Drew Utecht. Next up, the Micro Sprints. Austin Farley zoomed to the front and won easily over brother Andy. Austin’s night would not go as
planned, more on that later. Larry Stibitz from Laramie took his #40 Super
ProTruck to the winners circle besting Chris Titus and Tim Atkins. Scotty Soder just managed to hold off Ronnie Ripley for a very close win in the Mini Stocks.

John Humphrey was back in the winners circle after a long absence. He took
the dash beating Anthony Hernandez and Mark Sopr. Amanda Pandullo beat Jessica Pandullo to win the dash in the Warriors. Hunter Knight finished third. A wheel to wheel battle in the GAM’s as Justin Fornstrom won over Sam Calvetti and Tommy Evans.

The heat races would be next, and first heat for the CARC’s had Chet Graham
and Frank Denning with slight contact in turn three. Denning continued,
Graham spun. Graham to the back. Once restarted, Gary Land took off and looked to have the field covered. Carl Vair kept chomping away at Land’s lead, and at
the stripe, it was very, very close. Land won by mere inches over Vair. In
fact, the scoring computer show just .018 seconds difference, WOW! Heat two found Bob Land with his beuatiful #99 in victory lane winning over Joe St. Peter and Bill Willingham.

It was a rough start to the Micro Sprints heat race. Kayla Powers spun on
the first lap. Then on lap three, Garrett Park’s car died on the back stretch
and had to be pushed off. Andy Farley won over Jared Maas and Nick Rigali.
Heat two once again found Austin Farley taking the checkers as he beat Bob
DeRouchey, Cory Mallo and Aaron Dutton.

Larry Stibitz continued his winning night as he took the heat race in the
Super ProTrucks. Second place went to Chris Titus, third to Tim Atkins, fourth
was Kevin Snow and fifth to Anthony Hernandez.

After Patty Kaiser spun on the first lap of the Mini Stock heat. The race
settled down and Nick Tabor found his way to the front. Giving chase were
Scotty Soder and Tom Davis. Nick was able to hold on to win over Soder and Davis.

Sometimes things just go your way, and sometimes they don’t. Raymond Hanson
got to start up front for the Pure Stocks heat race, and he used his starting
position to full advantage. Hanson lead every lap and was able to hold off
hard charging Justin Mallo to take the win. Rob Bullock came in third. Hanson
did his traditional dirt donuts in the infield to the delite of the crowd.

Kecia Doll won the Warriors heat race beating Jay Brown and Hunter Knight.
David Swanso was fourth, Jessica Pandullo fifth. And since I never metion him
in any recaps, Ben Hendricks finished ninth. There ya go Ben!

A very hard fought race in the GAM’s. Much of the race stayed just as the
pack had lined up for the start. Lap after lap of wheel to wheel action with no one giving an inch. As the laps wound down, Dwayne Winkels managed to put
his Dodge powered car in to the lead and hold on for the win. Yes Joe Starr, I SAID DODGE! Shawn Trackwell was a close second with Rodger Jessel third. This group of drivers are to be commended as everyone drove a very clean race,
WELL DONE!

What a great race the CARC Mod Coupes had in their main event. Bob Land
worked his way to the front and lead much of the race. Gary Land had been working his way through traffic when he spun in turn four. Gary was able to spin the car back around and get going, but had dropped back in the field. Frank Denning was now in second place and applying pressure to Bob. After a few more laps, Frank took the lead. After a couple of laps leading the race, Frank got high coming off of turn two and hit the back chute wall. Carl Vair who was running third at the time, had no where to go and collected the back of the Denning car. Red flag. Carl would be able to continue after changing a flat tire. He would have to restart at the back. Denning’s car received heavy right front damage and had to be towed off. Frank was not injuried in the accident. Bob Land was now back in the lead. With only three lap left, Bob Held off Scott Rhoades and Gary Land who had worked his way back to third. Gary Land was also crowned the CARC Series Champion for BCS.

It would not be a good main event for two very fast drivers in the Micro Sprints. Cory Mallo and Austin Farley had very violent and scary crashes. On Lap 6, Kayla powers who was running about 3/4 of a lap behind the leaders, spun in turns three and four. As the yellow flag came out, race leader Cory Mallo went high to avoid the Powers’ car. It appeared as if his car hit the marbles at the top of the track and was sucked into the wall. Running almost full throttle the car slammed the turn four wall, flipped at least two times, and caught a lot of air. The car looked to be vaulting into the catch fencing, but stayed below the wall. While this happened, Austin Farley came into turns three and four and was unable to miss the stalled Powers’ car. Austin hit the car and flipped his Micro two or three times also, landing on the left side. The red was already being displayed for the Mallo wreck, so track crews were very quick to respond. Both Cory and Austin were able to climb unhurt from their wrecked cars. Kayla needed some help, and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. She had a check up, had no serious injuries, and was released soon after. Once the track was cleared the race resumed with Bob DeRouchey the new leader. Bob went on to win the main besting Aaron Dutton and Nick Rigali.

Tim Atkins took the main for the Super ProTrucks, winning on the same night
that his sponsors, sponsored the night. What could be better. Chris Titus
again took second with Kevin Snow third and Larry Stibitz fourth.

Another red flag for a main event, this time it would be in the Mini Stocks.
Meghann Gooden used a bold three wide move and took the lead on the very first lap. She would have the field covered. On lap 11, Jeff Campbell who had been running very clsoe to the front chute wall, got a bit to close and hit the
wall coming out of turn four. Jeff’s car would slide all the way down the
wall until it came to a stop in the middle of turns one and two. The red flag
was thrown because of the hard hit Jeff took. Jeff was unhurt, but his car was done with heavy right side damage. Once the race restarted, Meghann again took off and left the field behind. Ronnie Ripley, Scotty Soder and Tom Davis
all gave chase, but could not catch Meghann. This is Meghann’s second main
event win. You Go Girl!

The Pure Stocks main event would find rivals John Humphrey and Mark Sopr
again battling for the win. Both drove a good race, and when the checkers
dropped, Humphrey had broken Sopr’s four main event winning streak. The race was run caution free for 35 laps. Behind Humphrey and Sopr were Brian Ott third, Rob Bullock fourth and Willie Pandullo fifth.

In the Warriors, another 35 lap caution free main event. David Swanson won
the race by being patient and waiting or the right time to make his move.
David won beating Jessica Pandullo and Kecia Doll to the stripe.

Another super race by the GAM’s. A 35 lap main event would find lots of
wheel to wheel action once again. Lap three, Harry Gardner working his way from the back had some contact with Tom Evans Sr. Both cars spun on the back chute and were sent to the back. Up front, Dwayne Winkels had the lead, but was getting pressured by Tommy Evans. On lap 25, Tom Sr. spun bringing out only the second caution. With just 10 laps to go, Tommy really pressured Dwayne but could never move up enough to make the pass. Dwayne won over Tommy by just .481 seconds. Another close finish. Shawn Trackwell took third, Justin Fornstrom fourth and Rodger Jessel fifth.

The Street Challenge Race was won by Stacy Riedel on an Olds Cutlass Supreme.
