Indianapolis, Indiana-The World’s Home of the Figure 8® is proud of our latest Speedrome champion, Daniel Enlow. This young gun captured the 2009 Peters Auto Service Hornet Chase for the Cup championship. For the second straight year, Daniel had another head-to-head battle for the crown with Jon Elkins Jr. In 2008, he came out on the short end of the stick finishing a very impressive second in the final season standings. Enlow learned from that stretch run heading into this year’s exciting Cup quest.
Daniel started off 2009 with a quick pace as he and Nigel Peters seemed inseparable during Segment One of the Chase for the Cup. That 12 race campaign saw the #23 machine finish second in the standings ensuring him a spot in the championship playoffs beginning in August. His runner-up point’s result was built by an April 24th feature win in which he snagged the lead on the very last lap. That victory was joined by 3 second and 2 third place finishes.
With that locked-in position, it gave Daniel a chance to stretch his legs during June and July. He made his debut in the Hornet Figure 8 division where he captured his first crossover victory on June 19th. That win was only his second ever start! During this time period, he also landed a ride in the Speedrome Legend class. These high horsepower, low weight cars increased his skills as a driver. Enlow had some impressive finishes in the division headlined by a feature runner-up on July 24th. But, then it was time to focus on the Hornet oval title.
From the opening round of the Hornet playoffs, Daniel was never outside the top two in the standings. This 17-night odyssey for the coveted crown was a tour de force for the local Wrecker driver. Daniel clicked off four wins, seven runner-ups, and two third place results in this important portion of the season. The first place point position saw Enlow and Elkins trade the spot six times during the battle including three in one weekend. The championship night 50-lapper saw Daniel finish 2nd to secure his first-ever track championship. He received the prestigious Speedrome Cup along with $1000 from the point fund. We would like to congratulate Daniel Enlow on becoming a champion.
