First of two straight and third overall race at Northern Michigan speed plant

July 19th, 2015

Rochester Hills, Michigan: The Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour Presented by Lane Automotive returns to Northern Michigan for their first of two straight events at the same facility a month apart. The fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked dirt oval of Merritt Speedway, located west of Houghton Lake in Lake City, Michigan hosts the UMP DIRTcar Modified cars and stars on Saturday, July 18th as the Summer Spectacular highlights the night. This event is the second of three total appearances at the Mike Blackmer owned facility in 2015.

The fifth anniversary 2015 racing season has been dominated by 2013 Tour Champion, David Mielke, who has already set a record for most wins in one season with five and the most wins all-time with nine leading into this event. The 23-year-old Gladwin, Michigan driver was also the winner in the previous appearance at Merritt back on June 10th during the Inaugural Summer Showdown that also featured NASCAR stars Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Justin Allgaier.

Ironically, he is not the point’s leader as he trails Defending Tour Champion, Travis Stemler by a single marker heading into the event. With Mielke’s 13th place finish at Mt. Pleasant Speedway (MI) back on May 22nd after initially leading the race before breaking a driveshaft. This is combined with Stemler’s stellar streak of six consecutive top five finishes to start the year; Stemler leads Mielke by a single point going into the Summer Spectacular at Merritt.

In four previous appearances at the Northern Michigan speed plant; there have been three different winners with Mielke leading the way with two triumphs. Collin Thirlby scored one victory in 2014 while Mark Anderson won the first ever MDC Modified Tour race in Lake City, Michigan back in 2012.

After the events of July 18th, the Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour will take a month vacation before returning to Merritt for their third and final show of the season in Lake City, Michigan on Saturday, August 22nd. The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds will take part in the tracks Open Wheel Spectacular as the MDC contingent will be joined by the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP, Michigan Traditional Sprint Series and MORA Mini Sprints for an all open-wheeled show.

Kent Robinson Records Podium Finish with WoO Super Late Models at Merritt

August 25th, 2012

Bloomington, Indiana- The past few months have been nothing short of a nightmare for Kent Robinson, but on Saturday night he mounted a great charge to a third place finish in his #7r JB’s Salvage/Mastersbilt/Jay Dickens Racing Super Late Model in World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model action.

Winston Speedway (Rothbury, Michigan) was the destination for Kent Robinson on Friday night as he resumed action with World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model tour. Forty-four entries were on hand for the $10,000-to-win event, and he would fail to qualify for the feature via heat race action, but a third place finish in his b-main locked him into the twenty-first starting spot for the 50 lap finale. During the course of the feature he climbed seven spots on his way to a fourteenth place finish.

Saturday night saw Kent finally shake the money off his back with a third place finish at Merritt Raceway (Merritt, Michigan) with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model tour. Thirty-eight competitors registered for battle in the $10,000-to-win feature, which earned him the second starting spot for the fourth heat race. He would slip backwards in the heat to a fifth place finish, and with only the top four cars moving onto the feature he was forced to run a b-main. In the b-main he finished second to lock into the twentieth starting spot for the 50 lap finale. Despite starting near the tail of the field he would mount a great run in the feature as he passed seventeen cars on his way to a third place finish at the checkered flag behind race winner, Josh Richards, and Brandon Sheppard. For his efforts he received World of Outlaws Rookie of the Race honors as well as the Hard Charger award.

“Our luck has been unbelievably bad over the past few months. However, through it all my team has kept digging, and a third place finish feels like a win for us right now. Hopefully we can build on this momentum in the upcoming events,” commented Robinson.

Full results from both events are available at www.WoOLMS.com.

This weekend, August 25th-26th, the team will again go into battle with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model tour with a pair of $10,000-to-win, events in Virginia and Pennsylvania. The action opens on Saturday night at Winchester Speedway (Winchester, Virginia) before moving to Selinsgrove Speedway (Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania) on Sunday evening.
