Timothy Culp Wires Field for CCSDS Checkers at NEA Speedway

April 15th, 2014

Harrisburg, Arkansas – Timothy Culp conquered a talented field of thirty-five competitors to register the $2,000 win in the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil event at Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas), on Saturday evening.

A smooth and slick surface atop the 1/4 mile oval awaited the series competitors, and Shane Stephens, making his first CCSDS start of 2014, earned the New Vision Graphics pole position for the 35 lap feature event, and was joined on the front row by Culp.

Culp, who was starting on the front row for the second-straight night, took immediate advantage of his preferred position on the grid to grab the lead at the drop of the green flag. While the Louisiana native, who know resides in Sheridan, Arkansas, would never relinquish control of the lead great racing waged behind him.

Stephens ran in the second position during the race’s early stages, while Ashley Newman, Dane Dacus, and Kyle Beard battled in a hotly contested top five. The first of four caution flags flew on lap 9 for a Mason Oberkramer spin in turn one as Culp’s competitors briefly found themselves having a shot at the leader. However, as the race resumed Culp again motored away from the pack.

Three more cautions plagued the event with the most notable coming in the closing laps when Ashley Newman, who was running in the top five, received contact from fellow top five racer, Dane Dacus. The contact caused Newman to spin, and he collected Chandler Petty, Thomas Dacus, and Keith Craft. Not only did the caution bring an end to Newman’s chances at a top five finish, but it also put a stop to Kyle Beard’s bid for the lead as the defending series champion was unable to overtake Culp after the race resumed action for the final time.

Culp claimed the victory, which was his second career triumph with the series with Beard, Wendell Wallace, Shane Stephens, and twelfth starting, Josh Hughes rounding out the top five. Ashley Newman won GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 with Justin Asplin winning Heat Race #2. Brandon Smith scored the victory in ROCKHARD Powder Coating Heat Race #3, while Timothy Culp won Woodco Inc. Heat Race #4. Quarter Master Heat Race #5 was won by Shane Stephens The twin Boston’s Sports Bar & Restaurant b-mains were topped by Brandon Poppenheimer and Chandler Petty.

Kody Mea was the recipient of the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award for racing past twelve cars to finish 9th. Ashley Newman was the unlucky winner of the Keith Craft Racing Engines Hard Luck Award for the second straight night courtesy of the late-race contact that ended his chances at a top five finish.

The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series presented by Lucas Oil will take a one week break before traveling to Camden Speedway (Camden, Tennessee) for its only appearance of 2014 on Friday, April 25th before heading to Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas) on Saturday, April 26th. Both events will pay $2,000-to-win. For more information on the events please visit www.CamdenSpeedway.com and www.RiversideInternationalSpeedway.com .

Kyle Beard Conquers COMP Cams Super Dirt Series at NEA Speedway

September 11th, 2013

Harrisburg, Arkansas – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model competitors rolled into Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas) on Saturday night for the third round of the Stallion Transportation Group Summer Series, and it was point’s leader Kyle Beard, who left with the $2,500 winner’s check.

A great night of racing found twenty-four competitors entering the program, and action began with Billy Moyer Jr. earning the New Vision Graphics Pole Award via his performance in heat race action, and he was joined on the front row by Beard. While a pair of perennial favorites in the event brought the field to the green for the 35 lapper it would be 3rd starting Dane Dacus, who rode the low line to the lead on the first lap with Moyer Jr. and Beard in tow.

The first of two cautions in the event flew on lap 2, which grouped the field for a double file restart, and it would be Dacus again leading the way as Moyer Jr. and Beard began to work the middle and top grooves. Meanwhile great racing reigned supreme through the pack for the next ten laps before the caution flag was displayed again on lap 13 for a multi-car incident involving Tommy Surrett, Robert Lovett, and TJ Hughes.

During the caution period the complexion of the event underwent a change as Moyer Jr. retired with an overheating engine that was induced by a rock through his radiator. The ensuing restart found Dacus coming under fire from a hard-charging Beard on the high side. Dacus held Beard at bay until lap 20, when the Trumann, Arkansas driver bolted to the lead.

Beard would go on to lead the remainder of the event for his second series triumph of the 2013 season! Dacus came home second, while Clay Fisher overcame an excursion through the infield early in the race that pushed him as far back as the 11th position to rebound to a 3rd place finish. Brandon Smith and Wendell Wallace rounded out the top five finishers.

Billy Moyer Jr. won GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 with Chandler Petty winningNEA Super Gas Heat Race #2. Wendell Wallace raced to victory in Allen Manufacturing Heat Race #3, while Kyle Beard closed out heat race action with a win in Racing Head Service Heat Race #4.

Jamie Elam raced to victory in the Boston’s Sports Bar & Restaurant b-main. Tommy Surrett and Joseph Long utilized series’ provisionals to start the finale.

Joseph Long received the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award for advancing from the 20th starting spot to a 10th place finish, while Jon Kirby was the recipient of the Quarter Master Hard Luck Award after mechanical issues sidelined him early in the feature.

Despite there still being two races remaining on the schedule for 2013 Beard clinched his first COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Championship with the victory.

The CCSDS will now turn its attention to I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) this Saturday, September 14th for the final round of the Stallion Transportation Group Summer Series, which will be headlined by a $2,500-to-win feature. For more information please visit www.I-30Speedway.com.

Jack Sullivan Wins Thriller in CCSDS Action at NEA Speedway

September 12th, 2012

Harrisburg, Arkansas- After seeing the first night of the 2nd Annual Rockabilly 45 at Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas) nixed by rain the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model tour hosted the second round on Saturday evening, and it was Jack Sullivan, who claimed the $3,000 prize in a thrilling feature event.

After seeing almost two inches of rain dumped on the facility on Friday night, Northeast Arkansas Speedway officials worked diligently all day Saturday to get the track ready for Saturday night’s big event. Their hard work would result in a smooth race track, and one of the most exciting features in the history of the tour as seven drivers took a turn at the front of the field.

Via heat race action Todd Hall from Charleston, Missouri earned the New Vision Graphics Pole Award for the 45 lap finale. He was joined on the front row by CCSDS point’s leader, Jon Mitchell. Hall paced the opening circuit before Mitchell shot to the lead on lap 2. As Mitchell led the way fifth starting Robert Baker found his way into second and set his sights on the leader. Lap 9 found Baker moving to the lead, but on lap 10 the leaders caught the tail of the field and bad luck would strike. As Baker and Mitchell looked to navigate the slower car of Kenneth Jackson the lead duo
made contact causing both to spin to draw the caution. Both drivers rejoined the tail of the field as Wendell Wallace inherited the lead.

Wallace’s stint at the front would last until lap 15, when Kyle Beard bolted to the lead. Beard would take control of the lead for the next several laps, while great two and three-wide battles waged throughout the field.

As the race approached the closing laps of the 45 lap affair it appeared that Beard was on his way to his first series’ triumph of the season, but bad luck would intervene on lap 41 as he slowed with a flat, right-rear tire. After drawing a caution he ducked into the pits before rejoining the tail of the field for the final four laps of the event. With Beard at the tail of the field, Tanner English inherited the lead, but would lead just one lap before eighth-starting, Jack Sullivan jumped to the lead on lap 43.

Not even a last lap caution could slow Sullivan as he went on to claim the win over Tanner English, Brandon Smith, Wendell Wallace, and Jon Kirby. The victory marked Sullivan’s second straight victory with the tour.

GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 was won by Jon Mitchell with Tony Jackson Jr. winning NEA Super Gas/Killer Coatings Heat Race #2. RiceTec Heat Race #3 was claimed by Todd Hall, while Wendell Wallace won Racing Head Service Heat Race #4.

Jack Sullivan claimed the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award for advancing from his eighth starting spot to claim the win.

Kyle Beard received the Quarter Master Hard Luck Award after seeing a flat tire with just four laps remaining end his chances at the win.

The tour will return to action on Saturday, September 22nd with a $2,000-to-win event at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas). The event, which will be the final event of the RiceTec/RiceSelect Summer Series will mark the third and final appearance for the tour at the 1/4 mile oval in 2012. Billy Moyer and Wendell Wallace have split CCSDS victories at the facility this year. For more information on the event please visit www.I-30Speedway.com .
