Pearson Powers to Lucas Oil Victory at Boyd’s Speedway

April 5th, 2017

RINGGOLD, GA- Earl Pearson Jr. led all 50 laps on Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway to win his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race since May of 2015. The results will show Pearson led all 50 laps but the win never came easy as he had several challengers up front.

Current Lucas Oil point leader, Josh Richards charged from the 14th starting position to finish second in the Best Performance Motorsports, Dargie Racing Engines, Rocket. Jimmy Owens – in the Ramirez Motorsports, E3 Spark Plugs, Rocket – ran in the top three the entire race to finish in the third position. Thirteenth starting Tim McCreadie- in the Sweeteners Plus, Pro Power Racing Engines, Longhorn – finished fourth. Fifteenth place starter Darrell Lanigan – in the I-Racing, Clint Bowyer Racing, Club 29 – completed the top five.

Pearson made his way to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 31st time in his career and was elated afterwards, “I saw McIntosh early on, it looked like he could run anywhere on the track. Jimmy [Owens] was good tonight and Josh, [Richards] I know he came from deep in the pack. I was worried about him when he came to the leader board.”

“I just kept my line from the middle to the top. They weren’t going to pass me with the line I was running, except maybe on the bottom. This is a brand-new Longhorn Chassis. Everybody has been working their rear ends off and it’s been a long-time coming to get back to Lucas Oil Victory Lane. I would also like to thank Carlton and Kemp Lamm for giving me the opportunity to drive their car and Dunn-Benson Ford, Lucas Oil Racing TV, MAVTV, Penske Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuel, and Larry Wallace Racing Engines.”

Richards made his first ever appearance at Boyd’s Speedway and charged to a second place finish. “Earl and those guys did a great job tonight, congrats to them on the win. I had never seen this track until I got here today. I had seen maybe 20 seconds of highlights. I felt like I struggled for the whole race, we must have missed about 14 wrecks out there to get a good finish.”

Owens had another solid finish – coming home in third place. “I tried to keep my tires warm under those cautions and that was probably a bad idea. McIntosh had a good car and I could see him spinning his tires and they were sealing over and Earl’s weren’t. Hats-off to Earl for a great job and to Josh for coming from the back.”

Completing the top ten were Scott Bloomquist, Dale McDowell, Donald McIntosh, Jonathan Davenport and Brandon Overton.

In 2014, dirt late model standout, Dale McDowell and local business owner, David Duplissey acquired Boyd’s Speedway. Since its rebirth, the historic 1/3-mile oval, located at the Tennessee-Georgia state line, has undergone extensive renovations to improve the fan and driver experience. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make their first ever appearance on Friday, April 1st for a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win main event. In recent years, a high quality lighting and sound system, an enlarged pit area – to accommodate nearly 400 race teams, along with box seating and VIP suites have been added to the speedway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will converge on the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday, April 2nd for the 19th Annual Bama Bash. The tour’s only stop in the state of Alabama includes a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 60-lap, $12,000-to-win main event. For tickets and more information, visit: www.eamsdirt.com.

Defending champion, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia leads the 2015 Rookie of the Year, Brandon Sheppard in the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings. With Dale McDowell competing in the Super Late Model division he posted the fastest time in a field of 34-cars. “It’s awfully good to win at your home racetrack,” said McDowell, who made light of being co-owner of Boyd’s Speedway. “Some people don’t like when you’re racing at your own racetrack, but to heck with ‘em, I’ve only got four or five more years I’m going to race, so I’m going to race.”

Riley Hickman Scores Emotional Win in Cabin Fever 40

February 13th, 2014

Cleveland, Tennessee – Just a few days after losing his father to cancer, a mourning Riley Hickman piloted his #R1 BIF Motorsports/Hickman Manufacturing Company/CVR/Phantom Racing Engine Super Late Model to an emotional victory at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia) on Saturday afternoon.

Hickman, the 2012 Southern Regional Racing Series champion, overtook race-long leader, Tom Maddox amid lapped traffic on the 18th lap of the annual Cabin Fever 40 and went on to earn $3,000 for his fourth career series victory.

Maddox started from the pole of the 40-lap feature and broke out to the early lead, while Hickman made an early charge from his eighth starting spot to fifth before the race was slowed by a caution on the second lap. Following the caution, Hickman continued to work his way to the front, moving to third on the eighth lap, taking second not long after and eventually slipping past Maddox in traffic. Despite a pair of late-race cautions Hickman motored away from the pack to score the victory over Jeff Smith, Tom Maddox, Rick Hixson, and Caleb Ashby.

In victory lane an emotional Hickman commented, “This win really helped us put a finish to a tough week. Dad wouldn’t have wanted it any other way, and this win is definitely for him. I also can’t thank all of my friends, who have been nothing short of amazing over the past week as they’ve shown so much support for my family and I during such a tough time.” He concluded by noting, “A big thanks goes to Junior at Phantom Race Engines for lending us an engine to run for the weekend. If he doesn’t do that, then there is no way we are even here today, much less in victory lane.”

For more information on the race please visit www.BoydsSpeedway.net .

Hickman is currently unsure of definite plans on when his next race will be, so please stay tuned to www.RileyHickman.com for the latest news.

Dale McDowell Registers First Win of 2013; Bulls Gap Next

March 15th, 2013

Welcome, North Carolina – Dale McDowell powered his #17m Team Dillon Racing/Mastersbilt/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first win of the 2013 campaign on Friday night with a $4,000 triumph at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia).

It was a doubleheader weekend for Team Dillon Racing and Dale McDowell as they competed in Georgia and Tennessee. On Friday night the action opened with a $4,000-to-win, unsanctioned event at Boyds Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia). Thirty-six Super Late Models entered the program at the 1/4 mile oval, and via time trials Dale locked into the second starting spot alongside, Jonathan Davenport. As the race went green it was Davenport, who took over the lead, and would maintain the top spot until lap 20, when McDowell jumped to the front of the pack. Once out front Dale never looked
back on his way to his first win of the 2013 season! He was followed across the line by Davenport, Randy Weaver, Billy Ogle Jr., and Steve Casebolt.

“It took us a while to get going,” said McDowell, who rode behind the high-running Davenport early in the race before taking the lead with a low-side pass on lap 20. “Jonathan was awful good around the top side there, so I kinda found a groove in the bottom and got by him.”

Full results are available at www.BoydsSpeedway.net

Saturday evening saw the action shifting to Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) for the annual running of the Shamrock 50, which was sanctioned by the Southern All Stars (SAS) Super Late Model tour. Thirty-nine entries were in the pits, and after winning the second heat race, he earned the second starting spot alongside Randy Weaver for the feature. McDowell assumed control of the lead as the race went green, and held the top spot for the first fourteen laps before Billy Ogle Jr. took control. McDowell and Ogle Jr. battle for the lead for the next handful of laps before McDowell
slipped a few spots. At the checkered flag he was credited with a fourth place finish behind race winner, Randy Weaver, Mike Marlar, and Billy Ogle Jr. Full results are available at www.SASDirt.com.

McDowell will pursue his second win of the season this weekend, March 15th-16th, when he travels to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) for the opening rounds of the brand-new, Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals. On Friday night a $4,000-to-win feature will be held, while Saturday’s program will be headlined by a $10,000-to-win finale. For more information, please visit www.VolunteerSpeedway.com .
