Steele County Speedway cancels Labor Day show By Jeff Nun
OWATONNA, Minn. Sep 02, 2007 - (Aug. 31) - A tumultuous season at the Steele County Speedway in Owatonna, Minn., came to a quick end on Friday morning due to a discrepancy between the promotional group of Johnny Parsons and Brian Madsen and the Steele County Fair Board.
"We regret that it came to this but we couldn't finish the season under the
conditions that we were faced with," said Madsen. "We apologize to all the
fans, the USMTS, the IMCA Old-Timers and the ASCS 360 Sprint racers and
appreciate their understanding."
This means the O'Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series
show scheduled for Labor Day Monday has been canceled.
"Our apologies to the fans and drivers who were planning to go to Owatonna,"
said USMTS President Todd Staley. "Unfortunately, we got word of this just
72 hours before the race, so we simply don't have the time to schedule a
replacement race for Monday."
The Owatonna cancellation leaves five events left in The Hunt for the
O'Reilly USMTS National Championship. On Saturday night, the Masters of Fast
invade the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the 3rd Annual
Labor Day Dual, and 11th race in The Hunt for the O'Reilly USMTS National
Championship. A top prize of $2,000 is up for grabs, with all main event
starters earning at least $250. Joining the rugged O'Reilly USMTS road
warriors will be the WDRL Late Models.
The O'Reilly USMTS returns to the Kasson (Minn.) Speedway on Sunday, then go
back to the Deer Creek Speedway on Wednesday for practice night to kick off
the three-day 9th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.
